Is Good Not Good?

What position does the Lord have to put you in before you’re ready to repent? What would it require for the church to repent? Under what circumstances will people learn and make changes?

I ask this because of principle and in light of our present situation.

Let’s start with the present. Our new president has been in office for five weeks. Most of his cabinet selections have been confirmed. We are getting what we voted for. Is that good? And what are we doing in light of it?

I read a take from a Christian man who thinks that this administration will have worse consequences for Christians because we will just go back to being lazy. The “breathing room” has made the church “progressively weaker and more apathetic” in the past, and will again. It’s “when the church is put under pressure,” when she is persecuted, when she doesn’t feel safe, that she is truly prophetic and active. The only reason believers feel good about what’s happening now is because we’ve been given over by God to blind foolishness.

So do we need it to be bad for us to want and do good? Will we only repent when it hurts?

If that’s true, then why does God given us any blessings at all? Isn’t He just ruining us with every gift? Instead, the psalmist said, “With You is forgiveness, that You may be feared” (Psalm 130:4). And it is “God’s kindness (that) is meant to lead you to repentance” (Romans 2:4). That’s the principle.

It is also true that the broken sometimes become more bitter. The blessed sometimes become more blessed, including the blessings of a mind to work and an open door to work. Here is the day, what are you doing with it?
