You Have One Job

In the days of Nehemiah’s wall, there were brick-layers, debris-clearers, sword-wielders, gate-keepers, food-makers, and order-givers. Some were money lenders, some were money borrowers. There were men, there were women, young and old. And all of them were responsible to be holy. So it is with us.

You may have a job working with other saints, and you can still be unholy. You may have a job working with mostly God-hating-liberals, and you can still be holy. You may spend most of your days with little souls, and you are the first embodied image of what it looks like to be holy, or not.

Peter told his readers, and there is nothing here that does not apply to us:

As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” (1 Peter 1:14–16 ESV, including a quote from Leviticus 11:44)

Is your entertainment what saints enjoy? Is your speech about one another, and to one another, the way holy ones talk? Do you find yourself skipping time in Scripture because it convicts you of unholiness? Are you controlling your passions? Are you seeking to be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding?

Saints, you know better, and God calls you to share in His holiness.
