Remembrance of Anticipation
The Feast of Booths was an annual remembrance looking back. The Lord’s Table is a regular (for us, weekly) remembrance of anticipation.
That’s an unexpected pair: a reminding that is anticipating.
The Israelites camped for seven days every seventh month for sake of a communal and embodied history lesson. God had protected and provided for His people as they waited for the right time to be brought into the Promised Land.
We eat bread and drink wine for sake of a communal and embodied eschatology lesson. At the right time God will get us to our promised inheritance, He will send the Lord for us and bring us into His presence where faith and hope will be overcome by love.
as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes (1 Corinthians 11:26 bibref1corinthians11 bibref1corinthians11v26)
So, what are you waiting for? For Jesus!
Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls. (1 Peter 1:8–9 bibref1peter1 bibref1peter1v8 bibref1peter1v9 ESV)
Come, eat the bread with joy and drink the wine with a merry heart for God has already ordained glory for you. Remember and anticipate!
