Further Along?

By my count, last Sunday was our 767th Lord’s Day together as TEC. It is a little harder to count, but there have been approximately 104k Lord’s Days since Jesus rose from the dead.

And wouldn’t you think, with all the spiritual blessings given to us in Christ that we’d be further along than we are?

In Jesus we have forgiveness for our sins. In Jesus we have fellowship with the Father and we are filled with His Spirit. In Jesus we’ve been born again to a living hope. In Jesus we have life, now and unto the ages. In Jesus we see the world in His light. In Jesus we have meaning for our lives that is transcendent. In Jesus we have motivation for our lives down to the second hand.

Why, then, still so much individual sin to put to death and put off? Why so much corporate disunity? Why does the light of the church (especially in the West) seem to be under the basket? Why is our salt so tasteless?

It really goes to show how gracious grace really goes. As in, we are not hot snot. We are, left to ourselves, fickle and disciples of little-faith. We need supernatural help. We need divine strength. And, these are the people worthy to participate together around the Lord’s Table.

Do you hunger and thirst for righteousness? You shall be satisfied! You are blessed. You are being transformed from one degree of glory to another.
