For the Found
Communion is a feast for the Found.
Jesus came to seek and save the lost (Luke 19:10 bibrefluke19 bibrefluke19v10). He clothed Himself with humanity, and humility. He sought us when we were still sinners. He saved us from wandering. His Spirit caused us to be born again, and He drew us to Himself by gifting us faith.
Not only is it not a Table for the lost, the Found are invited to enjoy the benefits of Christ’s seeking and saving.
Luke recorded the night before Jesus was crucified:
And when the hour came, he reclined at table, and the apostles with him. And he said to them, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. For I tell you I will not eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he said, “Take this, and divide it among yourselves. For I tell you that from now on I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.” And he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood. But behold, the hand of him who betrays me is with me on the table. For the Son of Man goes as it has been determined, but woe to that man by whom he is betrayed!” (Luke 22:14–22 bibrefluke22 bibrefluke22v14 bibrefluke22v15 bibrefluke22v16 bibrefluke22v17 bibrefluke22v18 bibrefluke22v19 bibrefluke22v20 bibrefluke22v21 bibrefluke22v22 ESV)
The Son of Man suffered that the lost would be The Found. That is a reason for The Found to rejoice as they eat and drink in remembrance of Him.
