The Eternal List

Every believer is on a great list. Your name is included, not because you’ve done anything to write heaven about, but because the Lord has chosen you. He has stirred up your spirit to believe, because He has sovereignly elected you to salvation. So your name is written in the Book of Life.

Twice in the book of Revelation the apostle John wrote about this eternal book: “the book of life.” It was written before the foundation of the world. The name of the book does not seem to be an anachronism either, meaning, it didn’t get its name later. It is the book of life of the Lamb who was slain. God purposed to save, and He purposed to save by the sacrifice of His Son. This is the Lord’s eternal list, not everyone is on it.

So God wrote the name of every one of His own, and calls them to share in the Lamb who takes away the sin of the world. Saints of the Lord, He invites You to the Supper. He is the Author and Finisher of our faith, and He will finish the good work He’s started in you.
