Confessing the Truth

What a delight to hear our new president, on his first day back in office, use words such as “biological truth.” In an Executive Order on January 20: “It is the policy of the United States to recognize two sexes, male and female.” It’s not good that it’s gotten so bad, and, at least he didn’t back down from boldness where boldness currently counts.

Much of the news coming from the East Coast Washington has been as bright as the 10am sun this past week in Western Washington. Praise God! And, actually, that is what I want to exhort you to keep doing: praise God. Honor Him and give Him thanks.

Usually during our corporate confession we acknowledge the truth of our sin, and also, confession is the right word for an acknowledgment of our faith in truth. Those who confess with their mouth that Jesus is Lord will be saved (Romans 10:9). This changes everything.

Is our president driven by evangelical doctrine, by saving faith? He speaks of God, and of common sense. That’s something. But rather than fret too much over the specificity he leaves out, let’s take the open door and be clear in our confession. There’s need for truth-talking in season and out, so not just when it’s easy. And also, why not even more now?

The truth is, there are two genders, and “there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist” (1 Corinthians 8:6). There is “one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all” (Ephesians 4:6). “There is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus” (1 Timothy 2:5). There is “one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist” (1 Corinthians 8:6).

Let us take this window (two years, four years, twelve years?) to witness. Confess your sins, and state the truth. The Lord knows, our nation and neighbors need it.
