Two Revolutions

In a final class discussion on A Tale of Two Cities we noted some of the ingredients Charles Dickens describes that make for revolution, and discussed whether a similar revolution could happen in America.

Then we did some math.

During the French Revolution, four of the most violent days in 1792 are called the September Massacres. The mob killed around 1100-1400 defenseless prisoners. Taking the high estimate, that’s an average of 350 humans murdered each day. It would be almost 128k humans killed a year (which did not happen). Over 50 years, at that pace, the Revolution would have killed over SIX million people. This is what would have happened.

In the last 50 years in the United States we have killed at least SIXTY million children. Our own offspring. Defenseless. For self. In the name of women’s “health” and reproductive “freedom.”

Since 1984 the third Sunday in January has been called Sanctity of Human Life Sunday (under Reagan’s presidential proclamation). It’s near January 22, which is the day of the Roe v. Wade decision legalizing abortion in 1974. Our country continues to average one abortion every 34 seconds, and while the legal question has been returned to the states (with the Dobbs decision in 2022), mail-order pills are making abortion more accessible than ever.

While most of us look forward to the inauguration of a new presidential administration tomorrow, our country cannot be blessed under this barbarity. We not only could see a similar revolution as in 18th century France, we are still living in a revolution that is exponentially more brutal and bloody.

Do you pray for repentance? Pray for resources? Speak boldly and spread the truth? Give time or even money to pregnancy centers or adoption ministries?
