Re-forming Every Sunday

Without trying to be cute, the Head of the church re-forms us every week. As His body, we are re-membering. Yes, each believer thinks-again (remembers) but all believers member-again. The parts assemble into the whole. We’re reforming.

As any given battle progresses, lines of troops need to be re-formed. When we meet on the Lord’s day, we take note of where we’re called, we take note of where our fellow-soldiers are, and we come back into a united front.

The re-forming of the whole body in this way is part of the reforming of each part of the body. As believers we forget that we are not alone. We forget that we are not under condemnation. We forget that sin is not our master. We forget that God established enmity between the seed of the woman and the seed of the serpent and so the fact that there are still problems, at every level on any given day, should not surprise us.

What kindness that the Lord has given us bread and wine to remember rather than the ordinance of hair-pulling. What blessing from the Lord that He does not run us through the Sacrament of the Gauntlet of Beating.

He is cleansing us. He is establishing our faith and our duties. He is providing for us. He remembers us, for our good.
