Banking on AI Therapy
What we listen to matters. To whom we listen matters. As parents, whatever we allow to influence our kids, and especially if we give little input or filter, will create a lot more work, and maybe set things up for heartbreak.
This is not an anti-internet or anti-social media or anti-AI exhortation. However, like sharp knives, if we aren’t careful, the kids will be unprepared and start playing with these tools and cut up the couch cushions, or worse.
Online life is part of life, and its an even higher percentage for the younger generation. And good tools are good. Communication is an image-bearers game. Talk and text, listen and watch, every thumb’s-width and YouTube thumbnail should be taken captive for Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5 bibref2corinthians10 bibref2corinthians10v5).
Someone like Charlie Kirk used it, directly or even recording of his in-person debates, and he spread Light. Many of those who hate someone like Charlie Kirk use it to spread lies. Effective lies sound good, they make promises, they offer solutions to your bad feelings and in ways that make it someone else’s fault. It is the Not-My-Fault-Network. It is the OFOG = Online Fellowship of Grievances.
These days, we’re being told how AI can help all the things. It’s one thing to let AI do the thinking for you. It is even worse to let the AI tell you what to think. AI chatbots are cheaper than a therapist, and way more convenient. The CEOs of the major AI companies know it. They are banking on it.
There is more to say, but remember Psalm 1. Text-predicting robots can help in some cases, but they cannot be streams of living water for your soul. We need MORE wisdom, to protect and filter and lead. Take some agency. Don’t just let tech drive you around like chaff, or your kids.
