Against Sour Stew
One reason churches, as churches, don’t have great community presence is because Christians, as Christians, don’t have great delight in one another. A couple sour ingredients can ruin the taste of the whole stew.
This is not an exhortation to confession, this is a meditation for communion. I want you to remember that your love for one another in Christ adds up.
David wrote in Psalm 16 that, even though he had no good apart from the Lord (verse 2), he saw the saints in the land as “the excellent ones, in whom is all my delight” (verse 3).
Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 2 bibref2timothy2 that part of getting past youthful passions was to pursue mature passions “along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart” (verse 22).
And the apostle also wrote in Colossians 1 bibrefcolossians1 that a reason to give thanks to the Father is that He has “qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light” (verse 12).
You are saints in the land, give thanks to the Lord for one another. You call on the Lord together, and so let that keep you from ignorant controversies. You are saints in light, walk in the light and in delight with each other. May Jesus’ joy be in you all, and may your joy be full.
