Jesus Knew Where He Belonged
We would not be here if everyone accepted who Jesus said He was. We would have no communion because there would have been no cross. There would be no message of atonement because there would have been no sacrifice to substitute.
Jesus knew who He was and who is Father was. The first words recorded in His embodied life on earth were about His relationship to His Father (Luke 2:49 bibrefluke2 bibrefluke2v49). When Jesus was 12, His parents didn’t quite understand, and the teachers in the temple must not have heard what He said, or disassociated His last comment from the couple days He had spent amazing them with His questions and answers about the Law.
Jesus continued to say that God was His Father, and eventually this was the charge the religious leaders used against Him in order to justify killing Him. They called it blasphemy. (See Luke 22:66-71 bibrefluke22 bibrefluke22v66 bibrefluke22v67 bibrefluke22v68 bibrefluke22v69 bibrefluke22v70 bibrefluke22v71)
In God’s plan, it was actually the accusers who were blaspheming. It was the accusers who didn’t know who they were talking about. It was the accusers who killed the Lord of glory. They crucified the Son of God in willful, hostile ignorance. Their hearts were hard. And because of that, in the plan of God, we can have new hearts.
By God’s grace, He has opened our eyes, He has granted us repentance that has led to the knowledge of truth, He has drawn us to Himself through the Son. We know Him, and Jesus Christ whom He has sent, and have eternal life (John 17:3 bibrefjohn17 bibrefjohn17v3).
Jesus knew where He belonged, and now by faith, we belong with Him.
