Sundays after baptisms are a fresh delight. The Lord only gave us two ordinances: baptism and communion. Baptism is for believers, it publicly identifies the one being baptized as putting their faith in Jesus, it usually happens near the beginning of their walk with Christ, and is a typically a one time event. We’re called to remember our baptism, but not repeat it.
Communion calls us to repeated remembrance of Christ’s body and blood. It is also for a believer, not only at the beginning after baptism, but for their entire walk with Christ until He returns.
We learn more about the significance of our baptism after it happens, though we don’t get wet again. We learn more about the significance of communion also, but we get to eat and drink as often as the church meets at the Table.
Whether today is your first time or not, your life is in Christ. You are Christ’s. He’s marked you, He communes with you. As certain as He died and rose again, He is coming again. Continue to give yourself to Him just as He loved you and gave Himself for you.
